A Note From Our Editor
For nearly a decade, Grandview Country Club served golfers in Beaver, West Virginia. It was more than a course — it was where Buck hit his first real drive, where Maya learned that a golf club doesn't have to be terrifying, and where Dusty decided this part of the state was worth calling home.
This site is built on that legacy. We cover every public golf course worth playing in Beckley and the surrounding 60 miles. We tell you what the directories don't: what the fairways actually feel like, what a round really costs, and what you need to bring the first time.
My name is Crystal Liu. I spent two decades building digital platforms in Silicon Valley and Seattle. I keep our standards honest. Our writers are local golfers, not freelancers guessing from a map.
We earn a small commission when you buy through our links. It never changes what we recommend. If a product isn't good enough, we say so — and we don't link to it.

Earl "Buck" Hatfield
Local Course Writer · Playing since 1982
Earl has been playing golf in Beckley since before most of us knew what a tee time was. He remembers what Grandview felt like in its best years. He writes about local courses with the authority of someone who's walked every fairway.

Maya Chen
Beginner Guide Writer · Started golf in 2023
Maya moved to Beckley in 2023 knowing nothing about golf. She's now the voice for every beginner in southern West Virginia who's too embarrassed to ask what a driver is.

Dale "Dusty" McCallister
Travel & Local Writer · 15 years on the road
Dale spent fifteen years on the road for work. He's played public golf courses in forty states, but he always says Beckley's are the most honest. He writes for the traveler who just wants a good round without the fuss.

Jack "Slick" Herndon
Gear Reviewer · Tested dozens of clubs and balls
Jack is our gear obsessive. He's tested dozens of clubs, balls, and gloves, and he's not afraid to tell you when a three-hundred-dollar driver isn't worth your money.
Our Editor, Crystal Liu
Crystal spent two decades building digital platforms in Silicon Valley, Seattle, and New York. She worked on the early AdWords quality systems at Google, helped scale Amazon's global associates platform, and later built SaaS tools for affiliate teams. She fell in love with West Virginia golf through this project, and she keeps our standards honest.
Every article on this site passes through her review before it goes live. If a claim can't be supported, it doesn't get published. If a product isn't worth your money, we tell you plainly.
What We Believe
Local golf deserves better than a forgotten directory listing.
A beginner should never feel stupid for asking what a driver is.
Honest information is worth more than a thousand affiliate clicks.
We disclose every commission. We refuse every free product. We write what we see.
